The following letter was sent to
the parents/guardians of all our students announcing this new
program. Additional enrollment dates will be announced as they
are scheduled.
April 25, 2008
Dear Parents/Guardians:
At the 2008 Washington Academy Student Spotlight we will be
offering a valuable recovery tool for children. Part of our
effort, as a school, is to help keep our children safe in and
out of school. To that end, personnel from SCAN Learning Center
will be at Washington Academy on May 1, 2008 to offer an
important resource tool in case the unthinkable happens.
The Video Identification of Children (VIC) program is simple,
effective and free for children up to 18 years of age.
Therefore, if you would like to participate in this offering
please bring your child with you between the hours of 3 PM and 7
PM on May 1, 2008 when you come to see all the magnificent
projects at our annual Spotlight extravaganza.
Here is what will be done as part of the VIC program.
-
Your child will be
captured on video that takes less than 2 minutes.
-
Simple, non-personal
questions are asked of the subject thereby providing an audio
sample.
-
Name, addresses, or
personal information are never used.
-
The DVD
will be given to a law enforcement agency for secure storage
for 1 year, and then the DVD is destroyed.
By participating in this program, if your child is ever abducted
or missing, the police can release footage of the child to the
media to help locate the child.
Remember this program is free and totally voluntary on your
part. If you would like to participate the opportunity will be
here for you. See you on May 1st.
Sincerely,
Mr. Greg Acocella
Director
